GAINESVILLE, Ga. (Nov. 28, 2016) — The Fockele Garden Company has designed and built the Christian-David Family Pet Park at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center to give patients the opportunity to spend time with their beloved pets during a hospital stay.
The Pet Park was funded through the Medical Center Foundation with a donation from Murray and Daphne David. The inspiration for the garden came when the Davids thought about friends who had extended stays in the hospital and could not see their pets.
“The pet park offers a safe and happy place just outside the doors of the hospital that allows pet owners to reunite with their pets while they are patients,” said Julie Evans, The Fockele Garden Company co-owner. “It’s a wonderful concept that is getting a lot of use.”
Being away from a pet can be stressful for the pet and the owner. The medical center staff often encourages pet visits for patients who are having extended hospital stays. The visit from the pet often lifts the patient’s spirits.
The park has a dedicated parking lot, water station and clean-up stations for picking up after your pets. The 3,200-square-foot park has a five-foot high security fence with controlled access. Trees provide shade for the visits.
The garden features viburnum wintethur, becky daisy, cryptomeria gyrokruya, dwarf mondo grass, osmanthus goshiki and rhododendron prunifolium.
